Be Who You Are was written to open minds and hearts to the concept of children who do not identify with their birth gender. Gender diverse or transgender children are often misunderstood, ridiculed, physically assaulted or shamed into acting contrary to how they feel causing lasting and damaging effects.
"The book... is not just amazing – it’s quite simply the best children’s book about a child’s personal relationship to their gender identity that I’ve ever read. While other children’s books have primarily focused on the freedom to be gender non-conforming, “Be Who You Are” tells the story of a child who is transgender, and it does so magnificently! It’s superbly written and beautifully illustrated.
“Be Who You Are” is already a valuable addition to TransActive’s in-house library and I believe every public library, pre-school, daycare, pediatricians office and elementary school in the country should have at least one copy of this book on their shelf! Thank you so very much for demonstrating to the world how unconditional and affirming love for who our children are can bring light to not just a family, but to the world."
